Face Oil VS Cleansing Oil: What’s the difference?

One of the most frequently asked questions I receive is what the difference between our Deep Cleansing Facial Oil and our Ultimate Face Oil is. I’m also asked, “Can I use the face oil as a cleanser?” So, here’s the scoop:

are made either predominantly or solely from natural oils.

Our Ultimate Face Oil is 100% organic and natural oils, NO WATER (which is very common in other face oils, by the way). It’s specifically made to remain on the skin and obtain incredible results.  You definitely don’t want to wash it off your face!

are predominantly made from natural oils, with the addition of ingredients that help them to emulsify, or mix oil with water, and rinse off.

Our Deep Cleansing Facial Oil uses cetyl alcohol as an emulsifier (to blend the oil and water) and as a surfactant to suspend dirt and grime allowing them to be washed away. Surfactants attract the oil, dirt, and other impurities that have accumulated on your skin during the day and wash them away. Hence, “cleansing” the skin.

Due to its name, cetyl alcohol is often misunderstood to be bad for the skin since it is an alcohol. It’s true that some alcohols, like ethyl or rubbing alcohol, can be extremely drying to the skin. However, quite the opposite is true for cetyl alcohol, which is well known to effectively condition and soften skin. This is why your skin is not bone dry after rinsing. Rather the dirt and grime are cleansed from your face but the moisture barrier that balances the PH of your skin remains.

Please don’t use our Ultimate Face Oil to cleanse your face! You’ll be washing away one 100% pure precious oils that have been handcrafted to provide a multitude of benefits when left on your skin. In fact, the Ultimate Face Oil should be the last step of your skincare ritual and applied once your skin has been cleansed, toned and prepared to receive all the benefits it delivers.

While our Deep Cleansing Facial Oil also contains many pure and highly effective oils to nourish and cleanse it is specifically designed to be rinsed off leaving skin clean and nourished.

Cleansing Oils bind water and oil, attract dirt and grime and are designed to be rinsed off your face.

Face Oils (should) be 100% essential oils without fillers or water in order to penetrate the skin and deliver skin enhancing benefits. They are meant to be left on the skin—to nourish and protect your skin all day or night long!
